Earth Day is just around the corner and what better to celebrate than getting your hands a little dirty? Studies show that handling soil--whether that's making your own potting mix or repotting your plants--can literally boost your mood by increasing serotonin levels.

We're all for making things easy, so here's an easy recipe for homemade potting soil, should you feel up to it!

Start with 3 parts peat moss. Peat moss is very good at retaining moisture and is an excellent base for soil mix.
Add 2 parts perlite for drainage. Lightweight and airy, this creates lots of air for roots.
Add 1 part orchid bark, which will also help with drainage.

Mix it all together, you want to have a chunky and airy mix that doesn't hold easily and crumbles in your hands. That's it-- now go forth and pot!
