Pilea Propagation: A Love Story Did you know that the Pilea Peperomiodes (AKA Chinese Money Plant or Friendship Plant) is known for its propagation prowess? You don't need to be an expert to make new plants out of just one Pilea. That's because the central stalk of this plant, called the Mother, regularly grows "pups" (or babies!) at the base of her soil. You can leave these pups to grow as they wish, or you can propagate them in just a few simple steps! A fun project even the brownest of thumbs will find rewarding, here's how you do it: - Cut the pup off at the base with clean scissors or shears. 1 pup=1 new plant. Cut as many as you like!
- Place in water and watch them root-- this could take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
- Plant them in small pots (2-4" max) with fresh soil and keep them moist by watering every few days and/or misting.
That's it. Enjoy your new Pilea plants and watch them have pups of their own! |
