In the first of a series of interviews with the visual storytellers who use the MPB platform, we hear from photographer Matt Cannon @cannonmatt about his experience upgrading from a Sony A7 to a Sony A7 III.

Over to you, Matt.

I was first drawn to MPB for its affordability. These days, as I find myself wanting to make more environmentally-conscious choices when buying gear, MPB are my go-to. It’s not only the ease-of-use and affordability, it’s their ethos rooted in sustainability too.

So, I traded in my Sony A7 for a shiny used Sony A7 III. This was my first time experiencing the trade in service. The old camera was collected from my doorstep and the next one sent within a few days. The value of the old camera I sold was taken off the price I had to pay for the new camera. It couldn’t have been easier.

I took a trip to the beautiful Kudhva in Cornwall. I explored forests, coves, waterfalls and caves that offered different lighting situations to put the capabilities of the A7III to the test. The A7III held up as good as new. I trust that it will for as long as my original A7 did.

In a world where electronic waste is 5% of all waste—and set to increase—I feel it is incredibly important to reuse our technology. I have peace of mind in knowing that trading in gear extends the life and creative potential of photo and video equipment.

I definitely had some sentimental value attached to my old camera. But I find reassurance in knowing that my A7 is now out there helping someone else grow as a photographer rather than sitting on a shelf or worse, a landfill.
