For decades, he's been haunted by the memories of his home country. But long miles help him heal those old wounds. Theo Kahler Membership Editor |
| Happy Sunday, runners! I'm Theo—the membership editor at Runner's World. I love writing stories about all the awesome things our RW+ members are up to, like learning about their tried-and-true workouts, funniest run stories, and ways running has helped them overcome adversity. One of the best things about running is that it means different things to different people. For RW+ member Kamran Talattof, running helps him process the trauma of his youth living in the wake of the violent Iranian Revolution. Kamran, often the target of beatings and surveillance, was stuck in Iran for four years with a dream of getting to the U.S to complete graduate school. For decades after, Kamran repressed these painful memories, but as he started competing in ultramarathons once he finally made it to the U.S., he learned to use the mediative process of trail running to confront his tumultuous past. Kamran is a prime example of how running can help someone across all aspects of their life. I admire him for his tenacity and he inspires me to constantly expand my own relationship with the sport. |
