Hello, dear reader,
Labor Day weekend is upon us and as we head into the last hurrah of summer cookout season, the markets are flush with the most coveted ingredients of the year: our favorite nightshades, sweet corn, heirloom plums, and the final sigh of the summer berry harvest.
For those of you planning a backyard blowout, we pulled together some of our favorite grilling recipes—focusing on our favorite open-fire chicken and fish dishes from around the world. We also rebooted an old potluck favorite from our archives: a sesame- and curry-spiked potato salad that’s sure to please any carb-loving crowd (no controversial raisins, thank-you-very-much).
Over at SAVEUR, the end of this summer signals a few new beginnings. I’m thrilled that we’ll be partnering this month with two incredible organizations: the Anne Saxelby Legacy Fund and the Billion Oyster Project. If you’ll be in New York City on September 14 or 29th, consider ordering your tickets to their fundraising events now. (You’ll find us at both, celebrating these great causes, so please come say hello!)
I’d also like to welcome four exciting new regular recipe contributors. The fabulous U.K.-based chef Romy Gill will be treating us to her flavorful, family-style feasts. NYC spirits pro Shannon Mustipher will be rolling out a weekly classic cocktail to break you out of your happy hour rut. From Dubai, SAVEUR Blog Award winner and baker Majed Ali will be writing about his cozy, eclectic pastries and breads. And from Rome, pasta whisperer, Katie Parla will be serving up a regular rotation of under-the-radar regional pastas.
For my part, I’ve finally settled into my new apartment. I’ve got a little more space now, and—after years of studio-living and pandemic lockdown—I’m itching to start cooking with friends again. So later this month, I’ll be launching my new monthly entertaining series—Dinner at Kat’s! Look out for plenty of dinner party tips, recipes, drinks, and playlists from some of my favorite chefs, cookbook authors, and drinks professionals.
Happy (long) weekend!
