Why are survival games so appealing? For me, part of the draw is my character having more than just a stack of hit points and a mana meter to manage. There's stuff to balance that I deal with in real life: hunger and thirst, temperature and rest, and that thing we've all done at one point in our lives where we eat something questionable and hurl it all up a bit later.

There's also the lingering question of how I'd fare in a real survival situation, in a setting where I can't just root around in the fridge, walk to the store, or poke a few buttons on my phone to make food magically appear at my door. Could I turn some sticks and rocks into an axe? Could I hunt with a bow and arrow I crafted on a workbench that I also crafted? What, exactly, is "plant fiber" and can I really turn it into a rope and a pair of trousers?

I suspect I know the answer. In a real survival situation I would die quickly, cold and hungry and trouserless, after breaking my foot while trying to attach a rock to a stick with a poorly-crafted rope. At least I can do a bit better in survival games, some of which are on sale during Steam's Base Builder Fest this week. You'll find the link below.
