Computex, GPU killing chips, and Windows 11 being a weirdo.

The team is still recovering from jet lag after Computex; so much innovation, so many RGB LEDs, so little time. But we got through it and we're now back home, enjoying the refreshingly non-humid British summer… As usual, that means I'm sitting indoors testing PCs. Just do me a favour and read some of Jacob's Computex stories. He almost died in the Taipei heat to get those angles.

Computex is the most important tech show of the year for the PC industry. And, by extension, that makes Computex the biggest thing in tech for PC gamers, too. This year it's back for really reals, having taken a hiatus of a couple years thanks to the vagaries of the global pandemic.

For this much money you could just about get an RTX 4070, and you might wish to. I wouldn't stop you. But this offers more than a raw gaming machine. It's going to be a real performer for editing and high-RAM applications, courtesy of its 13th Gen CPU and 32GB of memory. Combined with a lovely 16-inch, 1600p screen and decent-sized storage, this is a lovely pick for the cash.

A pretty immense spec here for the price. That AMD CPU can hit 5.15GHz under full all-core loads and paired with the RTX 4080, and you'll experience some real GeForce. There is not much room for overclocking with that 750W PSU, but a 2TB NVMe drive and 32GB of DDR5 RAM means you won't need to upgrade for a while.

Windows 11 is a mess. Weirdly, I find that quite endearing. After decades of its existence as a deathly dull operating system, I'm kinda into Windows showing us its fallible side. But does it need to do it so damn often now, and in such strange ways? The latest is the way that Windows 11 will auto-translate the context menu's option to compress data into a .zip file for people in the UK to say 'postcode.'

A new roadmap from AMD confirms both its next-gen Ryzen 8000 CPUs with Zen 5 technology and an updated "Navi 3.5" graphics architecture will arrive next year. Some rumours suggest Navi 3.5 could enable integrated graphics with performance on par with an Nvidia RTX 3070.
