Last week Cycle World Editor-at-Large Blake Conner gave us a taste of how BMW’s new S 1000 RR superbike performed on the track. During that trip to Almeria, Spain, to test the latest track-focused Beemer, Conner also got a street ride on the German brand’s most extreme naked bike: the 2023 M 1000 R.
BMW’s S 1000 R has always been a contender in the naked-bike class, but newer competition such as the Ducati Streetfighter V4 R have underlined the S 1000 R’s lower power and less edgy performance. In fact, BMW says previous S 1000 Rs were limited in power compared to the RR superbike because of the lack of weight and aero on the front end. Now with the addition of winglets that BMW claims adds 22 pounds of downforce on the front tire at 136 mph, BMW has given the M 1000 R the same power as its superbike. That’s 205 hp! Check out Conner’s full review here, as we dream of and plan for our next naked-bike shootout…
As always, there’s more than we can fit into this email. Check out cycleworld.com for additional tests, reviews, and news.
