We spend most of the year honing the huge list of motorcycles considered for Cycle World’s Ten Best Bikes down to an elite winning group. Still, the many bikes not selected for the motorcycle industry’s highest prize often have a lot to offer and deserve recognition for their particular brand of greatness. This year, in place of our small traditional list of Honorable Mentions, the editorial team worked on a broader list across all categories for the first CW Editors’ Choice awards. These selections may not be the absolute class leaders, like our Ten Best selections, but they’re still excellent, or charismatic, or suit an underserved niche, or… Well, you get the idea. The bottom line is that these bikes each speak to our editors in their own way and deserve recognition for their unique qualities.
There’s all kinds of goodness in this list: Suzuki’s Hayabusa cruise missile, Indian’s stylish Chief Bobber Dark Horse, Honda’s scooter/moto hybrid Nav, and my dog’s favorite, the Ural Gear Up sidecar rig. There are nearly 40 bikes on this list, and each entry is recognition of a job well done by motorcycle engineers, designers, and manufacturers in their efforts to satisfy a diverse market of enthusiasts. Look for the Editors’ Choice badge on these special bikes in our extensive Buyer’s Guide.
Check it out, and let us know in the comments what your picks would have been.
As always, there’s more than we can fit into this email. Check out cycleworld.com for additional tests, reviews, and news.
