The launch of Star Citizen's biggest update has been a shambles

Wizards of the Coast is launching a Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth crossover set for Magic: The Gathering, which will feature one card so rare that only one of them will be printed. That card is, of course, The One Ring, "the treasure, and temptation, of Sauron's power" that caused so much trouble in Tolkien's Third Age.

In a series of events that feel like some kind of marketing stunt by Big Password Manager, an Old School Runescape player with over 20,000 hours on a single character has had it snatched away by hackers. GamesRadar reports that Diddeboy—a notorious and not especially beloved figure in the Runescape community—awoke recently to find that their maxed-out "skiller" account had been stolen. Worse, whoever stole it had rubbed salt in the wound, renaming the character from Diddeboy1 to "Same Password Everywhere".

The makers of the indie soulslike Bleak Faith: Forsaken have removed assets that were allegedly lifted from FromSoftware games. Archangel Games says Epic Games has now removed the third-party listings from the Unreal Engine marketplace, but it still hasn't told the studio whether or not they were actually stolen.

There's a concept often invoked in tabletop RPGs: the "Rule of Cool". It means, it's alright to bend the rules of the game you're playing, as long as it's in the name of making something exciting and fun happen. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves practically makes it its mission statement. When this big budget film adaptation of the iconic tabletop game was first revealed, some pedantic hay was made of the fact that the druid character uses her Wild Shape ability in the trailer to turn into an owlbear—something technically impossible under the rules of the game. People likely to level that sort of criticism will probably have a brain aneurysm when they witness her transform into a dozen different animals over the course of a wonderful one-shot escape sequence.

The neverending development of Star Citizen continues, and just before the weekend Cloud Imperium Games pushed out an extremely meaty update that promised to nudge the game towards the level of persistence it's been promising since the Kickstarter days.
