Here's Katie with the hardware scoop.
(PC Gamer)
This week our Jorge has been distracted by the fake fidget spinner keycap from Corsair. Jacob's been getting annoyed about a gaming handheld April fools joke, that turned out not to be April fools joke after all. And hardware overlord Dave just braved a hail storm to benchmark the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

The things we do for our beloved hobby.

Me? I've been on a bit of a retro/obscure design binge as I plan my office space, and spotted found this pointer shaped mouse—it probably won't make it into the best mouse guide, but I really just want it for office decor.
The Big Story
Ethernet co-inventor finally bags a Turing Award, half a century later
(Mark Wilson / Staff)
Robert Metcalfe, one of the principal engineers behind ethernet, has finally been handed a Turing Award by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), some five decades after his invention came to be.

Pretty big deals
Sabrent Rocket 2230 | 512GB | NVMe | PCIe 4.0 | 5,000MB/s read | 3,700MB/s writes | $89.99 (save $60)
(Sabrent)
The 512GB drive is a great middle ground for Steam Deck upgrades. Add the price of this and the $399 64GB Deck together, and you still save $160.01 over buying the top tier Deck. That's with well improved read/write speeds, too.
ASRock Challenger D RX 6700 XT | 12GB GDDR6 | 2560 shaders | 2,615MHz boost | $349.99 (save $10)
(ASRock)
The RX 6700 XT is still our favorite mid-range gaming GPU, competing with Nvidia's regularly more expensive RTX 3060 Ti. This is the cheapest version we've found today and comes with a solid, dual-fan cooler and a decent price tag.
Gigabyte Aorus FO48U | 48-inch | 120Hz | 4K | OLED | $799.99 (save $50)
(Gigabyte)
If you are primarily a PC gamer looking to go big, This Gigabyte 48-inch OLED 4K display supports 120Hz to get the most out of your GPU. For under $1,000, this could easily replace your TV so long as you don't mind losing out on some TV-specific features.
Hot in Hardware
New DirectX 12 preview could pave the way for PCs to become more like an Xbox or PS5
(Future)
At the end of March Microsoft announced a new preview version of its Agility SDK which incorporates a new feature that could deliver gaming PCs that no longer use traditional system memory. Just like an Xbox Series X.

Wooting's three-buttoned UwU keyboard starts at $50
(Wooting)
The folks behind our favourite gaming keyboard of the minute, the Wooting Two HE, have been hard at work on a new design. The adorable little three-keyed board looks like an April Fools joke at first glance, but the Wooting UwU is real and we have details of the founders campaign to go alongside this unique product.

HyperX's new adorable gamer gear-themed pet toys are kind of paw-some
(HyperX)
As you know, no better co-op gaming partner exists than man's best friend. So it only makes sense that your doggy games on the same gear as you. Well, not the same gear, but chewable plush dog toys inspired by HyperX's most popular accessories.
