Here's Katie with the hardware scoop.
(Future)
I'm not surprised that as we edge ever closer to a meaty cyberpunk future Nvidia's CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has announced his plan to stick around as a meaty AI robot for a hundred or so years. Imagine one of the world leading AI companies headed by a robot and tell me that's not a terrifying concept.

Meanwhile another dystopian titbit will potentially see more more Windows 11 apps popping up to ask for default and pinning permissions. Altogether this week has me wishing I could move into some of the beautiful procedural worlds people will be designing thanks to UE5's new game building tools. My own personal Metaverse--only not rubbish and with more trees.
The Big Story
Blizzard and Nvidia investigating reports Diablo 4 is killing RTX 3080 Ti GPUs
(Gigabyte, Blizzard)
The Diablo 4 team are investigating reports of RTX 3080 Ti graphics cards crashing or dying while playing the game's closed beta. Customer support says Blizzard is "working closely with Nvidia to identify affected hardware configurations and gather as many data points as possible to assist in the investigation."

Pretty big deals
Meta Quest 2 | VR Headset | 256 GB | $429.99 (save $70)
(Meta)
The Meta Quest 2 is the tried and true VR headset to suit most users. It runs stand alone, or with the power of your sick gaming computer, without any wires required. The price recently went up by $100, this is the best value offer we've seen since.
ABS Eurus Aqua gaming PC | Core i7 13700F | Nvidia RTX 4080 | 16GB DDR5 | 2TB SSD | $2,300 (save $260)
(ABS)
This is hands-down the best deal we've found for an RTX 4080 gaming PC. There's no compromise here, no last-gen CPU to cut the build price, no half measures storage option, no this is a whole lot of PC for the money. That RTX 4080 is the big one--on its own not our favorite GPU because of its price, but as part of a prebuilt machine there's no arguing with its gaming power.
Samsung G4 gaming monitor | 27-inch | 240Hz | 1080p | IPS | $279.99 (save $120)
(Samsung)
If you want extremely high frame rates, you do need to pay more for the privilege. This Samsung G4 asks a lot for a 1080p panel. To make up for it, it'll run at a speedy 240Hz, which is a great fit for competitive gaming. If your GPU can handle it.
Hot in Hardware
Are we finally going to get a modular gaming laptop that sticks?
(Future)
In July 2022, our hardware big boss Dave James checked out the modular, user-upgradeable Framework laptop, and declared "Framework shows what notebooks should be like, and now I desperately want it to make a gaming laptop." After attending a Framework event in San Francisco, our Wes got some very good news for Dave--the moment has arrived.
Right to repair!
Smuggler tries to scoot 84 SSDs into China, gets busted
(Qingmao Customs)
Chinese customs has uncovered someone trying to smuggle SSDs into the country inside an e-scooter. Now I know what you're thinking, there's not much space for anything inside an e-scooter's compact frame, but you'd be wrong. And it's that sort of thinking that the smugglers thought would get them across the border home-free. Alas, it didn't.
Nothing to declare
Pro overclocker bricks AMD's best gaming chip without really trying
(der8auer)
Seems like it might be surprisingly easy to brick one of AMD's best gaming CPUs, even if you're a professional overclocking YouTuber. The world now has one less AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D after a slight voltage tweak above just 1.35V.
