When Suzuki launched two new models with a clean-sheet 776cc parallel-twin, the naming conventions gave a hint to each machine’s design philosophy. The adventure bike retained Suzuki’s V-Strom moniker despite the new engine configuration, signaling V-Strom 800DE would focus on a balance of road and off-road performance that fit with its V-Strom stablemates. But the GSX-8S’s name suggested that this wouldn’t be a replacement or continuation of the SV line. Instead, it gets a model designation that has been assigned to Suzuki’s more sporty machines.

To find out just how sporty it is, we sent Cycle World Editor-at-Large Blake Conner to France to put the GSX-8S through its paces. Riding the Côte d’Azur on the GSX-8S, Conner found the overall performance worthy of praise, but he also left highly impressed with the 776cc twin and looks forward to future models it may power.

Suzuki has taken some guff for its slow rollout of new models in the last decade, but it has reversed that trend in the past couple of years. Check out these other reviews of recent Suzuki models like the GSX-S1000GT+ and Hayabusa below.
