Ducati has announced a special edition to celebrate the 30th anniversary of one of its most-loved models: the Monster. In 1993, Miguel Galluzzi’s most famous creation, the M900 Monster, was released as a counterargument to all of the fully faired repli-racers of the era. It had all (well, most) of the greatness offered by the legendary 900SS with a more, dare I say, practical riding position. “All you need is: a seat, tank, engine, two wheels, and handlebar,” Galluzzi said.

He definitely wasn’t wrong. Over three decades, the Monster has been Ducati’s bestselling model.

CW’s Italian correspondent Bruno dePrato has all the details on this latest iteration. Some notable facts and figures? Only 500 are being produced and just 100 of those are coming to the States. It’s set to be a high-performing Monster with its 361-pound-claimed dry weight—4.4 pounds less than the Monster SP it’s based upon. The SP we recently tested on the Cycle World dyno the SP pumped out 94.3 hp and 61 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear tire. Check out the Monster 30th Anniversario first look here.

To recognize 30 years of Monster, enjoy this 2018 Paul d’Orleans story on Miguel Galluzzi and the birth of the M900.

Thinking about the Monster has me recalling my first ride of the 2023 Ducati Diavel V4—but why? Well, many inside Ducati have called it the “Mega Monster.” And it’s mega, that’s for sure.
