In just two weeks, it will be 2023—can you believe it? While so much has changed in the past couple of years, both in my personal life and in the world at large, I still feel, in some ways, like I’m mentally stuck in 2020. For one thing, I still can’t bring myself to wear hard pants for more than a few hours at a time. And maybe that’s okay. Maybe it’s even great. Elastic waistbands and stretchy fabrics don’t have to signal sloppiness or that I’ve “given up” (which I kind of think is a sexist premise anyway, but that’s for another newsletter). Relying on comfortable pieces is an act of kindness toward myself, and until I can break the habit of starting sentences with “This might be dumb, but…” I’m okay with settling for some sartorial self-love.
