Letter from the Team: Earlier this week, a few of my coworkers and I sat down for a big brainstorm around our upcoming fall collection. (Not to give too much away, but the pieces we have coming down the pipeline are truly excellent—richly colored, intricately textured, and artistically sculpted.) We gazed at Miyako’s sketches, and we asked ourselves, What will the M.M. woman do in these pieces? How will she feel? Who will she be? Looking at the pieces, we realized that while the silhouettes, colors, and fabrics felt fresh, the thing that made these styles special is something that’s true of all M.M. pieces: These are styles that transcend occasion and situation. They’re not just for work, and they’re not just for weekends. In other words, they’re Power Casual.

The stories we have for you this week reminded me of that conversation, because they deal similarly with the idea that most things in life are multifaceted. Making a mistake at work—especially a big one—feels unequivocally bad. But five years down the line, it might not seem like such a big deal. In fact, you might even be thankful that you made a mistake, learned from it, and changed course as a result. We spoke with seven executives who learned an important lesson the hard way—and told us about the mistakes that got them there.

We also have a wonderful new story by our Senior E-Commerce Associate, Anna, and her mom, Jules. Their infectiously close bond has always been underscored by their shared love of clothing, and in honor of Mother’s Day, they told us about the eight M.M. pieces they both wear on a regular basis.
