2025 Triumph Daytona 660 First Ride Review

3/17/23

Triumph’s 2025 Daytona 660 signals a return of a production fully faired sportbike to the company’s lineup, a space that had been vacant since production of the Daytona 675 ceased after the 2017 model year—if you don’t count the rare and limited-edition Daytona Moto2 765. Now, Hinckley is producing a new Daytona for the masses, but the focus is different from the supersport repli-racer that came before.

Sharing the same basic engine as the Trident 660 and Tiger Sport 660, the Daytona 660 is all about well-rounded performance and usability rather than chasing a lap time. Egros are more relaxed, and the suspension is more basic than the last 675R. But before you say, “Boo!” this is the way of current middleweight sportbikes. Look no further than the success seen by Suzuki’s GSX-8R or Yamaha’s YZF-R7 or Kawasaki’s Ninja 650 KRT Edition to understand the thinking behind this new Daytona. Value mixed with solid performance and everyday usability is a winner, and the Daytona 660 looks to have these qualities.

Cycle World Editor-at-Large Blake Conner was just in Spain to find out if this latest Daytona lives up to the storied name. Read his full first ride review here to find out.

For thrilling performance of an entirely different type, CW contributor Andrew Chereny flew to Daytona Bike Week and got an early first ride on Buell’s Super Cruiser. This 175-hp superbike engine in a West Coast club-style cruiser suit is not set for production until 2025, but we were able to test ride a preproduction unit to get a first impression. Buell says it has $120 million in preorders—does this suggest the Super Cruiser a hit already? Well, Cherney used the word “exhilarating” and he’s not one to overstate things. Check out the ride here.
