Ducati is no stranger to high-performance singles—remember 1993’s Supermono? But it’s clear that Ducati’s bones have been made through high-performance V-twins and V-4s, but single-powered machines didn’t seem to be a priority for Borgo Panigale. Especially recently, capturing new and younger riders is key to growth for every manufacturer. Ducati has been highly successful with its Scramblers, but those buyers are shopping for style and feel rather than outright performance. Now, Ducati’s Hypermotard 698 Mono should capture the attention of those riders looking for something to knock their socks off.
Cycle World In-Market Editor Bradley Adams headed to Spain to flog the Hypermotard 698 Mono on a tight and challenging go-kart track to find out just how hyper this new single is. Is it worthy of attention from those looking for a high-performance entry into the world of Ducati? Will Ducati create a new wave of single-cylinder Ducatisti? Check out his first ride to find out.
At the moment, Spain is the hot spot for press introductions of new models. In fact, I went there recently to give Triumph’s updated and upgraded Tiger 900 GT Pro and Rally Pro to the test. Hinckley gave the Tiger’s T-plane crank triple 13 percent more horsepower and a new look among other changes. After two days on two of the three Tiger 900 models, I found one to be a front-runner in the middleweight ADV class. Read my review to see which model that is.
As always, there’s more than we can fit into this email. Check out cycleworld.com for additional tests, reviews, and news.
Ride on,
