Letter from the Team: So far, I’ve only had one session with my new therapist, and she’s already given me a great piece of advice (what a keeper!). I’m paraphrasing here, but the basic sentiment was: You don’t need to plan the rest of your life today. It’s okay not to know the answers to life’s big questions. It’s okay to be unsure about where you want to be in five, ten, or twenty years. It’s okay to simply enjoy the present. Tall order for an anxious, list-dependent INFJ, but I’m doing my best to take her advice.

One way I’m putting it into practice is by trying new activities with no great expectations about where they’ll take me. In my early 20s, I had a bad habit of finding too much meaning in everything. I’ve always identified as a reader, and if I didn’t read a book for a couple of months, that meant I was failing. My husband got me into cocktail-making, and for a brief stint, I threw myself into writing and illustrating a never-to-be-completed book on our original recipes. I spent a long time feeling like if I was going to do something, I needed to do it to the max—and if I didn’t, the identity I’d constructed for myself would be compromised. Basically, I needed to relax. And these days, with the help of my therapist’s wise words, I’m working on getting there.

Yes, these are deep thoughts for a Sunday morning, but they do connect to clothing, I promise. Because another way I’m learning to live in the present is by—believe it or not—embracing trends.
