Letter from the Team Does anyone else feel like time is flying? Lately—for the past year, actually—it seems like my days pass by at a truly alarming rate. After hitting the five-minute snooze button most mornings, I proceed to sleep for what feels like a measly five seconds more. Many afternoons at the office, I look up from my laptop, and the workday is already half gone. Some evenings, I snap out of my post-dinner TikTok binge, and suddenly, it’s time to get ready for bed. In theory, my meditation practice should be bringing more mindfulness into my life, helping me to slow down and appreciate what’s right in front of me. But in reality, I rarely open up my Calm app anymore because, well, who has the time! While I still frequently feel like time is working against me, I’ve made some very small tweaks to my mindset, which has alleviated some of the aforementioned whiplash I’ve been experiencing. For instance, rather than attempting to adopt a Gwyneth-Paltrow-level morning routine, I’ve been infusing my existing habits with a bit more magic. Think: treating myself to a latté at the corner café instead of making drip coffee at home, or getting lost in a book on the subway instead of immediately opening up the news. In short, I’m slowing down and enhancing the things I’ve already been doing.

Another thing I’ve already been doing? Wearing lots of our clothes. Having worked at M.M. for over six years, I sometimes take our garments’ thoughtful design details for granted, but this is another realm in which I’ve felt re-inspired recently. The other week, I interviewed our co-founder & Chief Creative Officer, Miyako Nakamura, and our Director of Merchandising, Shelby Goldfaden, about the unique craft of M.M. designs,

pants like the works of art that they are. As Miyako put it, “we’re always looking for fabrics that do something beyond being just pretty.”

Our design team’s ability to balance both form and function continues to impress me, and even our sparkly new holiday collection keeps practicality top of mind while being unapologetically charismatic.
